Federal Aid Highway Act of 1973 (S.502). The vote is on the Anderson amendment to permit urban areas to use $700 million from the Highway Trust Fund for mass transit. This is a vote to "bust the trust" (which collects over $5 billion a year exclusively for highways). This amendment would give cities more flexibility to use part of their transportation money for buses and railroads. The President supported the amendment. April 19, 1973. Rejected 190-215.
