Population Research
House Roll Call Vote 945
Issue: Other

Labor-HEW Appropriations, Fiscal 1977 (HR 14232). The vote is on the Scheuer amendment to increase funds for population research by $16 million. The Center for Population Research has received only tiny increases in its budget over the past 4 years. Yet new discoveries of birth control pill hazards have highlighted the fact that there is still no 100% safe and effective way to prevent pregnancy. A report put out by the Ford Foundation in 1976 indicated that the United States would have to increase its budget by more than 50% just to maintain the level of services provided in 1974. The report advocated spending five times the present amount to promote a vigorous population research program. June 24, 1976. Rejected 122-278. ÒYESÓ is the correct vote.
