Representative Matt Cartwright (D-PA) offered an amendment to H.R. 5538, the Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2017, which would strike a rider from the bill that delayed the Environmental Protection Agency’s Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting Program, which requires the use of safe practices and actions aimed at preventing lead poisoning in homes and elsewhere. On July 12, the House rejected the Cartwright amendment by a vote of 195-231 (House roll call vote 429). YES IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE. The House passed H.R. 5538 on July 14, but the Senate took no action on this legislation.
