Military Investments in Advanced Biofuels

Representative Paul Gosar (R-AZ) offered an amendment to H.R. 4870, the Department of Defense Appropriations Act, 2015, which would prohibit any funds in the bill from being used to replace petroleum-based fuels with advanced drop-in biofuels. The Department of Defense is the single largest energy user in the nation, and investing in renewable biofuels significantly reduces pollution and the military’s carbon footprint. Advanced biofuels also enhance American energy security by giving the military more fuel options and reducing its dependence on oil. On June 20, the House rejected the Gosar amendment by a vote of 205-208 (House roll call vote 334). NO IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE.
