Blocking Funding for Conservation
House Roll Call Vote 581
Issues: Public Lands & Oceans, Appropriations

Representative Russ Fulcher (R-ID) sponsored an amendment to H.R. 4821, the Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2024, which would block funding for the Biden-Harris administration’s America the Beautiful initiative of conserving 30% of the nation’s lands and waters by 2030. The America the Beautiful initiative is prioritizing work with local people to create plans to protect, restore, and manage lands and waters that help reach collective goals for cultural support, climate action, and biodiversity. On November 2, the House approved the Fulcher amendment by a vote of 212-202 (House roll call vote 581). The House passed H.R. 4821 on November 3. The Senate did not consider this legislation or any Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations bill in 2023.
