(H.R. 7553) Public Works Appropriations Fiscal 1978: Vote is on the Conte-Derrick amendment to delete funding for 16 water projects and to reduce funding for one more. In April, President Carter called for deletion or reduction of funding for 23 water projects because they were "wasteful, unsafe and economically or environmentally unsound." The House Appropriations Committee restored full funding for nearly all of the projects. This amendment is the modified Administration position designed to stop funding for 17 projects which would destroy forest, farmland, wildlife habitat, rivers and streams. Rejected 194-218. June 14, 1977. YES is the correct vote.
